Coca-Cola European Partners joins over half a million volunteers for the Great British Spring Clean

Coca-Cola European Partners volunteers collect over 500 bags of litter nationwide

Over 300Coca-Cola European Partners (CCEP) employees have taken to the streets of Great Britain in April to support the Great British Spring Clean, the annual national cleaning event from Keep Britain Tidy. Employees from CCEP joined over half a million other volunteers on the initiative to take action on litter.

The nation’s biggest single clean-up event saw 308 volunteers from across CCEP’s manufacturing sites and offices take part over the course of the campaign. CCEP teams held 12 clean-up events across Great Britain, cleaning up parks, beaches and even canals. As a result, the teams collected a total of 517 bags, 134 of which were able to be recycled.

CCEP has been a long-standing supporter of Keep Britain Tidy and, this year, played its part in the Great British Spring Clean, galvanizing its customers and communities into getting involved. Ahead of the month-long event, it distributed over 500 clean up kits to independent customers, participating SPAR stores, charities and schools to encourage them to take part. These kits enabled local communities to engage in the activity by providing them with materials such as litter pickers, hi vis vests and gloves. CCEP is committed to providing the tools that help tackle litter pollution during and beyond the Great British Spring Clean campaign, creating a lasting impact.

CCEP is committed to reducing waste and helping keep the streets, rivers and beaches of Great Britain litter-free. As set out in the business’ Sustainability Action Plan, This is Forward, one of CCEP’s prime goals is to work with local and national partners to ensure that 100% of its packaging is recovered so more can be recycled and none is littered.

Allison Ogden-Newton, Chief Executive, Keep Britain Tidy said: We were delighted to have a record 563,163 volunteer #LitterHeroes join forces for this year’s Great British Spring Clean. Now the country's biggest mass-action environmental campaign, we are hugely proud that the 17,097 clean-ups held, resulted in a total of 957,377 bags of litter being collected. We believe through work such as this, we can illicit real change and help in tackling the issue of litter pollution. We’d like to thank all of those involved, without the support of our volunteers, we would not be able to create such a positive impact.”

Lisa Foster, Sustainable Packaging Manager, CCEP said: “With sites all across Great Britain, it was incredible to see so many CCEP volunteers donning their kits and taking to the streets to clean up local communities and raise awareness of environmental issues. The environment is something that affects us all and we believe everyone has a responsibility to protect it. We are delighted to have played a part in such a huge nationwide movement. It’s events like this that are at the heart of our Sustainability Action Plan. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with our ongoing and developing partnerships, our customers and communities to boost litter reduction.
